Bloomsday Celebration
In Ireland and around the world, June 16 is commemorated as Bloomsday, celebrating the novel Ulysses by James Joyce. The novel follows Leopold Bloom on June 16, 1904 as he walks through Dublin, and chronicles the characters he meets and the things he sees on his version of the Odyssey. Today’s Bloomsday celebrations include marathon readings of Ulysses, tributes to Joyce, and celebrations of Irish
literature and music.
Join us at the Kansas City Irish Center for a night honoring one of Ireland’s most famous writers! We’ll start the night with some music and an adapted reading of Ulysses, and cap the night off with a ceili to send us all home dancing! Our wee pub will also be open and serving some Bloomsday favorites. 2022 is Ulysses’ 100th birthday – there’s no better time to celebrate Bloomsday with us!
This event is free and open to the public. Parental discretion is advised due to adult language and situations.
